Home, Reimagined.
CCRI is launching a new project—building a fully accessible, technology-enabled twin home in Moorhead for adults with more complex physical needs who are able to live independently with technology and some staff support.
Meet Hannah. This Is About Her—and So Many Others.
Hannah Papenfuss is a bright, thoughtful, driven young woman who loves being around people and advocating for disability rights. But there are few housing options that give her the accessibility she requires and the opportunity to live with peers who, like her, have complex physical or medical needs but do not require support with decision-making or daily planning.
This project changes that. This home allows her to live with others who share similar strengths, routines, and lifestyles—fostering true connection, belonging, and independence.
"Disability is not the tragedy everyone makes it out to be, but there are definitely barriers that you have to deal with that other people don’t, and it makes your life more complicated.” —Hannah
This home eliminates some of those barriers.
The Plan: Technology That Transforms Lives
This custom-built, side-by-side accessible twin home will include:
On one side: Fully barrier-free living spaces and smart home technologies (voice assistants, automated doors, sensors) that enhance autonomy.
On the other side: CCRI’s Independent by Design (IBD) office, saving ongoing costs, bringing staff closer to the 40+ people we support through our IBD program, and operating out of a centralized location that allows us to expand our reach.
Through a combination of sensors, med minders, alert pendants, and staff assistance, CCRI’s IBD program provides the right support in the right environment, so individuals can make choices, build confidence, and live life on their terms.
More than a house, this project reimagines the future of healthcare and independence for people with disabilities—and it’s only possible with your help.
